PHOTOGRAPHY: COMMISSIONS: MOTHBALL VESSELS

A reserve fleet or mothball fleet is a collection of naval vessels (both warships and support vessels) that are fully equipped for service but are not currently needed and thus partially or fully decommissioned. While held in the reserve fleet, the ships will typically have a minimal crew ( a guard per ship- Watchman or a small crew) that makes sure the ship stays in usable condition.Due to the economic crisis, for the first time after two decades the worlds most profitable shipping companies, now are mothballing their vessels which normally takes them out of action for months or years and is a longer-term commitment than putting down anchor and waiting for rents to advance.
